Japan Stratosphere Communications
Inc (JSC) was established in 2001 to assist in the development of stratospheric
platforms in Japan, through partnerships with Aerovironment/NASA in
the USA.
Over the last few years JSC has worked extensively with the National
Institute of Information and Communications Technology (formerly Communications
Research Laboratory of Japan) to assist in their trial programme by
providing test vehicles. This collaboration resulted in the world’s
first experiment of 3G and HDTV communications from a stratospheric
platform (Pathfinder Plus) in 2002. JSC has also provided both financial
and technical support (via consultants) for spectrum sharing activities
within ITU-R. An easing of the regulatory burden on stratospheric platforms
will benefit the industry worldwide. As a commercial company whose primary
aim is to deliver profitable stratospheric platforms communications
we consider providing such assistance to both the regulatory and technical
aspects as critically important.
